SNP genotyping is a measure of the genetic variation of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) among species. SNP is one of the most common types of genetic variation. SNP is a single base pair mutation at a specific site, usually consisting of two alleles (rare allele frequency > 1%). SNP is associated with many human diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. It is particularly important in pharmacogenetics. Real time PCR is an effective method for SNP genotyping. It provides a variety of markers for the detection of genetic variation, including DNA insertioners such as SYBR green, fluorescent probes and widely used TaqMan chemical methods.
